Japan on Tuesday confirmed its first case of the Omicron coronavirus variant, a day after authorities introduced new Covid border restrictions.
“Relating to the traveller arriving from Namibia, it used to be confirmed to be a case of Omicron after prognosis on the National Institute of Infectious Diseases,” executive spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters.
“Here is the indispensable Omicron case confirmed in Japan,” he stated, including that the infected traveller, a person in his 30s, is now in isolation at a medical facility.
The announcement came a day after Japan tightened its border guidelines again, barring all new international arrivals staunch weeks after relaxing complicated guidelines to enable some students and enterprise travellers entry.
