BERLIN—Officers from Washington to London and Warsaw are asking whether or now not Germany’s heavy dependence on Russian fuel, its post-World Battle II tendency to defend a low profile in world conflicts and its longstanding political and industry hyperlinks with Moscow are in actuality making it an unreliable ally within the crisis in Ukraine.
In recent weeks, Germany has refused to be half of the U.S. and others in transport defensive weapons to Ukraine and blocked North Atlantic Treaty Organization partners from giving Kyiv German weapons; its navy chief resigned after making pro-Russian remarks; and Chancellor Olaf Scholz delayed a meeting with President Biden in Washington.
